It’s Time to Give Half Light a Cover

HALF LIGHT IS FINALLY NEARING COMPLETION

There was a time when I thought HALF LIGHT might never make it out of the writing phase. This was partly due to the sudden, dramatic shift in the meaning and focal themes of the collection, but it was also due to the realization that I wanted—needed—to take my time with it. There should always be caution, patience, and understanding when prying open the doors to the past, I think. Always steady, kind hands when examining old wounds.

You can’t hurry the process.

But finally, after over a year of delays, I can see editing and formatting on the horizon. Currently, I am organizing the chapters, choosing which final pieces to add, and working on the interior illustrations. So, finally, HALF LIGHT is going to see the light of day!

LET'S PICK A COVER

To be frank, I am not a designer. I thought about making book covers once, and nearly died when I realized how much actually went into that process >.<

However, since our house is in need of repairs, I can’t afford a cover designer at the moment. Do you know how much a kitchen remodel costs? A roof repair? Replacing drafty doors? Gods, it would give you a heart attack just hearing quotes and estimates. I died a few times myself 😀

And so…I bit the bullet and designed a few on Canva. Sort of. No judgements LOL My goal was to make minimal but totally “grab-worthy” kind of covers. Most poetry books on the market right now have either super dark or super light covers, and are more abstract or minimal in exterior design. So I tried to keep things simple, yet in sync with the tone of HALF LIGHT, which is natural, earthy, and dark.

But as I said, I’m not a designer. I don’t know what OTHER people consider aesthetically attractive or what makes them snatch a book off the shelf. And so, I am asking readers to weigh in on which would be the best option ♥
